What is MCP, and how do you connect your AI tools to your brand?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor connect to other services and read from them. Think of it as a power socket: one standard, so every tool does not need its own integration.

The problem MCP solves

Every AI assistant starts from zero. If it is going to know anything about your brand, you have to paste the same document into every conversation, in every tool, and remember to update every copy when something changes. With MCP the tool reads directly from the source instead, every time.

How it works in practice

A service offers an MCP server. You add it to ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor as a connector or integration, sign in and approve what the tool may read. After that you can write “make a post about the launch” in Claude, and Claude fetches the brand from the server before it answers.

What can be shared

That is up to the service and to you. A good MCP connection lets you choose what is shared: identity, audience, voice, visual direction, rules, products, approved files. And it lets you revoke the access at any time.

What to check before you connect

  • Can the tool only read, or also change things? Reading is safe; changes should need a person's approval.
  • Can you see what is shared, and limit it?
  • Can you see which tools are connected, and disconnect them?
  • Is the content live, or a copy?

Who should care

Anyone who uses more than one AI tool, and anyone who works on a brand with other people. When the marketer uses ChatGPT, the developer uses Cursor and the agency uses Claude, MCP is how they all get the same truth.

In Marshi

Brand Key is Marshi's MCP server. You choose what the brand shares, connect ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor, and they read the brand live. Changes from the tools become suggestions a person approves.
