Connect an AI tool

Connect the AI you already use to your brand

Marshi lets the AI tools your team already uses read your brand's source of truth, so they work from the same brand you do.

  • Never changes your brand

An AI tool reads your brand through Marshi. If you allow it, it can also suggest changes, and nothing changes until a person approves them.

  • Scoped

Each connection reads one brand or project, and only what the person who approved it granted.

  • Recorded

Every read of brand content is recorded.

  • Revocable

You can revoke a connection at any time.

What this is

Your brand in Marshi (its identity, audience, voice, visual direction, guardrails, products and approved assets) is the source of truth your team works from. Marshi is the server that lets an AI tool outside the workspace read it, over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which many AI tools use to reach outside sources.

  • It reads, and at most suggests. No tool creates, changes or deletes brand data. A connection you allow to suggest changes can file suggestions, and they change nothing until a person approves them in Marshi. Changes to the brand are made in Marshi.
  • Each connection is scoped. It reads one brand or project, including what a project inherits from its brand, and only the sections the person who approved it granted. Guardrails always come with it.
  • Every read is recorded. Each read of brand content is recorded with the AI tool that made it, which of Marshi's tools it used, and when.
  • It can be revoked at any time. Revoking a connection ends its access from the next request.

This page is about AI tools reading your brand. Creating designs in your own Canva, Figma or Lovable account from Marshi is a separate feature, called Connect.

What an AI can read

An AI tool connected to Marshi can use 11 tools, and every one of them only reads. What they return is limited to the brand or project the connection was approved for, and to the sections it was granted. A connection you allow to suggest changes has one more tool, described under Suggesting changes.

What a connection can be granted

Facts
What the brand is
Voice
How the brand speaks
Guardrails
What it must not do — always included
Assets
Colours, logos, type, media

Products and the project summary need Facts. Logos, colours and images need Assets, and product images need both.

The tools

Brand context

What the brand is, how it speaks, what it must not do and how it looks, as far as the connection may read.

  • get_contextThe brand's current truth for one task, as text an AI can use directly: the granted parts of its identity, audience, voice, visual direction, guardrails and project, and with Facts its products. It is chosen for the task the AI names (for example email, social, design or coding) and cut to the level of detail it asks for.
  • get_brand_contextThe same text for a general task at standard detail, kept for connections made before get_context existed.
  • get_brand_keyEverything the connection may read, as structured data (JSON), for storing or comparing.
  • get_project_summaryWhere the connected project sits in the brand (its master brand, its parent, whether it inherits) and which campaign, product or site it is for. Needs Facts.
  • get_brand_key_versionA free check of whether something read earlier is still current. It returns version fingerprints only, no brand content, and is not recorded as a read.

Products and their facts

The connected project's products, with their facts exactly as stored.

  • list_productsThe products, each with its exact facts as label and value pairs, such as “Caffeine: 80 mg”. Needs Facts.
  • get_productOne product in full: description, exact facts, link, variants and, with Assets, its images.

Approved assets

The logos, colours and images the brand has approved.

  • list_assetsThe approved logos, colours, images and product images. Needs Assets.
  • get_assetOne asset, with a download link that expires after about ten minutes. A colour carries its value and has no link.

Search across all three

For tools that look things up before they read them.

  • searchFinds matching items across the brand's context, products and assets, and returns their ids and titles.
  • fetchOne item found by search, ending with the version it was read at.

What it cannot do

  • Change your brand. None of the tools writes brand data. A connection you allow to suggest changes only files suggestions; the brand changes when a person approves one in Marshi.
  • Read outside its connection: another brand or project, another workspace, or a section it was not granted. Such a request gets an error that says why.
  • Go elsewhere for you. It does not browse the web or call other services. For assets it reads only the workspace's own file storage.

Suggesting changes

If you allow it, a connection can suggest changes to your brand, for example when someone asks their AI tool to rework the brand's tone or positioning. The AI tool never changes the brand itself: every suggestion waits for a person in Marshi, and until one is approved every connected AI keeps reading the brand as it is.

  • Off until you turn it on. It is off for every connection until an Owner or Operator turns it on for that connection — on the approval screen, or under Brand → MCP, the only place an API key can be allowed. Turning it off, or revoking the connection, stops new suggestions from the next request.
  • Within the connection. It can suggest only fields in the sections the connection may read, only for its own brand or project, and only as plain text — at most 12 changes in one call, 30 an hour, and 50 waiting on a project at once.
  • A person decides. Suggestions wait under the brand's MCP page (Brand → MCP) and beside the field they would change, marked with the connection that sent them, its reason and the field's current value. Someone with edit rights accepts one, edits it first, or dismisses it.
  • Then it reaches every AI. An accepted suggestion is applied through the same checks as an edit made in Marshi, and every connected AI reads it from its next request. A dismissed one changes nothing.
  • Recorded. Every suggestion call is recorded, including the ones that are refused.
propose_brand_changes

Files suggested changes to the brand's fields for a person to review in Marshi, and says which were filed, which were already waiting and which were refused, and why. Nothing in the brand changes until someone with edit rights approves a suggestion.

How to connect

Every AI tool connects to the same address, the Marshi link:

Marshi link

https://marshi.ai/api/mcp

Sign-in or an API key

  • Sign-in, for most AI tools. Add the Marshi link to the tool, sign in to Marshi when it asks, and approve the brand it may read. There is no key to copy or keep.
  • An API key, for tools that cannot sign in. An Owner or Operator creates the key in Marshi, on the brand's MCP page (Brand → MCP) or under Settings → Integrations. The key is shown once. The AI tool sends it with every request as Authorization: Bearer <your key>, and it can be revoked like any connection. Tools that do not use MCP can send the same header to GET /api/brand-key.

How to connect OpenAI API

Who can add it: Developers using the Responses API or the Agents SDK.

  1. Create an API key in Marshi (Brand → MCP) and copy it.
  2. Add an MCP tool (type "mcp") with the Marshi link.
  3. Put the key in its headers as Authorization: Bearer <your key>.

How to connect your tool

Who can add it: Depends on the tool.

  1. Point the tool at the Marshi link and sign in when it asks.
  2. Approve this brand in Marshi.
  3. If the tool cannot sign in, use an API key instead.

Admin-run agent platforms such as Glean, Microsoft Foundry, AWS AgentCore, Salesforce Agentforce, Dust and Manus take remote MCP servers too, mostly with a pre-registered client or a header. Where one takes a header, an admin can use an API key.

What happens when you connect

  1. Sign in. The AI tool opens a Marshi page. If you are signed out, you sign in first; the request is kept for ten minutes while you do. You need a Marshi workspace with the brand in it.
  2. Choose the brand and what it may read. Pick the brand or project, one per connection, and its sections: Facts, Voice, Guardrails and Assets. Guardrails are always included. You can also rename the connection.
  3. Approve. Choose Approve and continue, and Marshi returns you to the AI tool, which can now read within what you approved. Choose Deny instead, and nothing is created.

Who can approve

By default, an Owner or Operator of the workspace. Anyone else who signs in sees the request, can deny it, and is asked to have an Owner or Operator make the connection. Someone who can approve in another of their workspaces can switch to it on the same screen.

Disconnecting

  • In Marshi. An Owner or Operator chooses Revoke next to the connection, on the brand's MCP page (Brand → MCP) or under Settings → Integrations. The AI tool loses access from its next request.
  • In the AI tool. Remove Marshi from the tool's connectors or settings. If the tool supports token revocation, that also ends its sign-in. The connection stays listed in Marshi until it is revoked there.
  • On its own. A connection stops working when the person who approved it can no longer manage connections in the workspace, for example because they left it.

Keeping answers current

  • Marshi keeps no separate copy: every call reads your brand as it is in Marshi at that moment, so an edit reaches the next call.
  • Every result that carries brand content names the version it was read at, so you can tell which version an answer used.
  • An AI tool can check, for free, whether something it read earlier is still current. The check returns no brand content and is not counted as a read.
  • An answer earlier in a long conversation may still rest on an older read. Ask the AI tool to read the brand again, or start a new conversation.

Security and privacy

  • Your conversation with the AI tool is not sent to Marshi. A call carries only what it needs: a purpose, a level of detail, a search query, a result limit, a category or an id — and, from a connection allowed to suggest changes, the suggested values with a short reason.
  • Every read of brand content is recorded with the AI tool, which of Marshi's tools it used, and when, and so is every request for something outside the connection. That record holds no IP address.
  • Credentials are stored only as hashes. Sign-in access lasts an hour and is renewed while the connection is used; an AI tool that has not renewed it for 30 days signs in again.
  • Asset download links are signed and expire after about ten minutes.
  • What an AI tool keeps from what it reads, and how it uses it, is up to that tool and its terms.
